About us
We are a family of photographers. We launched Special Moments as an affordable option for families who might not otherwise be able to capture family portraits. We grew up in the Sears and J.C.Penny era's of family photos. But as our family started growing, we found professional photography to be outside our budget. We also realized as homeschoolers that our kids will never have Yearbook Photos. Our hope is to be able to provide that for other homeschool families.
In 2025, we had the privilege to attend Operation Headshot's Project Sight Alignment. This 6 month course and Culmination event in San Diego helped us hone in our skills in preparation of launching our business. Find out more about them and how to support them here.
Joshua : I grew up watching my dad take pictures every time we went on a trip. His love and mild skill with a camera had a part in me developing that same love for photography. My first Camera was my dad's old, used, film camera. I used that and a small digital camera until I got my first DSLR in 2009. I now shoot with a Mirrorless Camera. I love random shots. From people to places. I don't have a single focus but strive for the best shot in each case.
Deidre : I started my photography journey in college. I took a photography class and we used super old film cameras. We had to develop all our film in a dark room. It was something I enjoyed but pursued a career in publishing instead. Now that I am a stay at home mom I have picked a camera back up and started enjoying it again.
Ruby : Chief model and amateur photographer. Started with a Vtech now uses a Nikon Coolpix (or cellphone).
